Lunch Laughes by Asia Frye
The Wesley Foundation started a new fellowship group this semester called
Lunch Laughs. Students gather Fridays at noon to eat lunch in the cafeteria
together. Friday is an excellent day because it allows freshmen to use
their excess meals from the week to buy lunch for upperclassmen. It has
really created an atmosphere for old and new students to get to know each
other. Over lunch students share their funny experiences from the week
and laugh together. Lunch Laughs has averaged about 15 students a week
and has been a great way to end the week in fellowship together.
Frosh at Wesley by Asia Frye
This semester has been very successful for Frosh, our Freshman group.
Frosh tries to be a place to welcome freshman to university life, be a
starting place to get them involved at Wesley, and generally serve the
unique needs of first semester freshmen. This semester at Frosh we have
been using the format: fellowship, game, praise and worship, then lesson.
This model allows a lot of flexibility and is very open to new students
and people at various stages in their walk. The Frosh lessons have been
based on this semester’s cell group curriculum and have focused
on problem areas college students face in their faith. Some examples are
time management, apathy, and excessiveness. Frosh also had several fellowship
nights. One night they went to Frosh Leader Jesse Sandlin’s home
for a hotdog roast and campfire. On Thursday, Nov. 30, they will decorate
the building for Christmas, listen to Christmas songs, and enjoy Christmas
goodies together. We have had more freshmen involved in Frosh this year
than ever before and those freshmen have been more consistent. They have
quickly stepped into leadership roles such as planning the homecoming
spirit dance and have gotten plugged into all areas of Wesley’s
ministry. We do not lead a group specifically for freshmen in the spring,
but anticipate these freshmen entering our cell groups and joining our
leadership team.
